Yupwego is a French travel insurance broker, founded in 2018 by travellers, that works with six partner insurers to offer plans tailored to every kind of trip. The whole process is online, your certificate of insurance lands in your inbox as soon as you pay, and cover starts immediately for the vast majority of policies.

What Yupwego actually is

Yupwego is not an insurer: it is a broker. The platform selects and distributes policies from six well-established partner insurers, AXA, Groupama, MGEN, Mutuaide, Tokio Marine and IMA, which means you can choose a plan that fits your trip rather than paying for cover you will never need.

The platform works for every kind of traveller: students on working holiday visas, families on summer breaks, seniors on cruise holidays, digital nomads away for months at a time. Cover is available up to age 85, for stays of up to 12 months, extensions included.

What Yupwego covers in practice

Cover levels vary depending on the plan you choose. Here are the key limits published for the standard reference plans.

Medical expenses and hospitalisation

Up to €500,000 in medical costs covered in the event of accidental injury or sudden illness abroad. If your condition warrants it and the local doctors and the insurer’s assistance team both agree, Yupwego will arrange medical repatriation at 100% of actual costs.

Third-party liability

Up to €4,500,000 for bodily injury or property damage caused to a third party during your trip.

Baggage

Up to €2,000 under the standard plan for luggage stolen by forced entry from a secure location. Individual valuables are covered up to €250 per item.

Remote medical consultation

Included in all plans, giving you access to a doctor around the clock from anywhere in the world.

Emergency dental treatment

Up to €600 for emergency dental care resulting from an accident.

Search and rescue

Up to €5,000 for mountain or sea rescue costs.

What Yupwego does not cover

Before you sign up, these exclusions are worth knowing:

  • Pre-existing conditions: any medical condition known before departure is not covered.
  • Extreme sports: scuba diving, kitesurfing, mountaineering, contact sports and other high-risk activities are excluded from standard plans.
  • Theft without forced entry: a phone snatched from your bag in the street is not reimbursed. Only theft involving forced entry into a secure space is covered (a locked vehicle between 7am and 9pm, or a hotel room where the safe was in use).
  • Motorcycles over 125cc: depending on the plan, riding one may not be covered without the appropriate licence.
  • Active conflict zones: destinations officially advised against by the authorities remain excluded.

If your trip involves high-risk activities or riding a powerful motorbike, check which policy suits your profile before completing your application.

How to take out a policy online

Taking out a policy takes just a few minutes through the online quote tool: enter your age, destination and trip length, and you will instantly see the plans available to you. As a rough guide, a solo 15-day trip in Europe starts from €26.70, and a one-month worldwide policy from €43.68 (2026 indicative prices, subject to your profile and chosen plan). You pay in a single transaction by secure card, and your certificate of insurance arrives by email straight away.

One detail that often catches people out: you can sign up even if you are already abroad at the time of application. For most policies, cover starts with no waiting period. Some policies do apply a 15-day waiting period for illness-related claims, so always check the terms and conditions of your chosen plan.

If you need to make a claim, the assistance team recommends getting in touch from your very first medical consultation, with your policy number, the contact details of the medical facility and a description of what happened. Email is the preferred channel, as phone charges are not reimbursed by the insurance.

Travel with peace of mind, wherever you are headed

Yupwego covers trips to virtually every country in the world. Whether you are planning an Icelandic road trip, a stay in Cyprus or a week in the Greek islands, every destination comes with real risks that deserve proper cover, over and above whatever your bank card might offer.

For ideas on where to go this summer, browse our guide to travelling in Greece, Cyprus or Iceland or explore the best European destinations for the summer. Once you have picked your destination, a Yupwego certificate can be yours in minutes, before you board.

FAQ

Does Yupwego reimburse medical expenses abroad?

Yes. Yupwego plans cover medical and hospitalisation costs up to €500,000 in the event of accidental injury or sudden illness abroad. Contact the assistance team from your very first medical consultation to start the claims process, providing your policy number and the contact details of the medical facility.

Can you sign up with Yupwego if you are already abroad?

Yes. Yupwego allows you to sign up from abroad. For most policies, cover starts immediately. Some policies apply a 15-day waiting period for illness-related treatment. Check the terms and conditions of your chosen plan carefully.

What are the main exclusions with Yupwego?

Pre-existing conditions, extreme sports (scuba diving, kitesurfing, mountaineering, contact sports), theft without forced entry and active conflict zones are among the most common exclusions. Depending on the plan, motorcycles over 125cc may also not be covered without the appropriate licence. The Yupwego FAQ lists exclusions by product.

What is the maximum age to take out a Yupwego policy?

Yupwego accepts applications up to age 85.

How does medical repatriation work with Yupwego?

Medical repatriation is activated when your condition makes it medically necessary. The decision is taken jointly by the local doctors and the insurer’s medical assistance team. Administrative reasons alone, without a medical justification, are not sufficient to trigger repatriation.

Is baggage covered with Yupwego?

Baggage cover is included, but with specific conditions: the theft must involve forced entry into a secure space (a locked vehicle between 7am and 9pm, or a hotel room where the in-room safe was in use). Theft without forced entry, accidental damage and normal wear are not covered. Individual valuables are reimbursed up to €250 per item.
